As COVID cases are seeing a spurt in numbers, good Samaritans from across the country have extended their help. For those under quarantine or isolating at home, cooking food can be a herculean task.
We spoke with some of these home chefs to know more about what they are delivering, in detail. While each of them shared their own unique stories about either delivering free of cost meal, or cooking food out of love and compassion for people – even though not being a professional - the idea of serving people around us is heartwarming and strengthens us being humane.
Atika Gupta, a communications professional in Delhi, says “Serving people during these distressing times is really rewarding. I got a call from a girl from Australia whose parents were COVID affected and they wanted simple home-cooked food, low on spices and sodium. The fact that people are helping each other when immediate family is not present, gives me purpose. I do not have a big infrastructure to pull this off, but I try my best to serve as many people as I can (cost-free meals) – one dal, a vegetable, rotis and salad. I only serve vegetarian meals – and also ask people if they want onion/ garlic based food or not. Hoping we come out of these challenging times stronger.”

Priyanka delivers food in Rohini, Pitampura and Shalimar Bagh. She is providing fresh home cooked meals in 2 combos for INR 150 each. Getting continuous orders from COVID patients and their families have made her realise how critical it is for all of us to stand up for the people in need. “I try my best to include a wholesome meal high in protein, since the disease drains the energy out of the body big time. I am extremely motivated to reach out to as many people. Breakfast orders are taken one day prior, lunch order by 10 in the morning and for dinners last order goes by 5 PM. I feel food has really proven to be the defining element of humanity, and people have risen to the occasion to save lives.”, she opines.
